Hoi An Orphanage is the largest centre for orphaned children in Quang Nam Province, Central Vietnam. The Orphanage is owned and run by the Vietnamese Communist Government. It was founded in 1978, in the city of Da Nang and was known, in the Vietnamese language, as the “centre for restoration of malnourished and handicapped orphans”. It later moved to Hoi An in 1985.

Currently it is home to 80 children (the number fluctuates slightly with arrivals and departures), aged from 10 days to 22 years, of whom 37 have disabilities, the majority of which are cerebral palsy-related.

The government-appointed Director in charge of the Orphanage is Mrs Trinh Thi Bich Thu; she was voted into this position in 1992. She is supported by Vice Director Mrs Pham Thi Cong and a team of 23 staff (12 of whom are employed, and paid for, by the Kianh Foundation).

Based in the nearby city of Tam Ky, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) is the government department responsible for the overall management of Hoi An Orphanage.

With the help of its supporters, the Kianh Foundation has therefore funded, and hopes to continue funding, the major projects at the Orphanage. These projects include the employment of 12 local Vietnamese people, provision of medicines and arrangement of surgeries, nutrition improvement, Special Education, Further Education support; providing and running a school room and play room for disabled children, Physiotherapy and building maintenance and repairs.

Hoi An Orphanage is located at 108 (old no. 4) Nguyen Truong To Street in Hoi An town centre, next door to the Catholic Church.
