HOW YOU CAN HELP

We desperately need your financial support

Vietnamese Physiotherapist Phuong employed by UK charity the Kianh Foundation. Seen here working with Be Hong, who suffers from hydrocephalus, in the special education room at Hoi An Orphanage, Vietnam.

The most effective way that you can help is through financial assistance. We do not receive any government grants, loans or funding support; we rely solely on the support of people such as you.

It requires regular funding to maintain our work at Hoi An Orphanage. Our current monthly expenditure is approximately US$ 1,500.

Our minimum, monthly staff costs are:

2 Physiotherapists - US$ 278 ($139 each)
1 Physiotherapist (trainee) - US$ 119
4 Special Education teachers* - US$ 142 (1 at $50, 1 at $42 and 2 at $25)
3 Senior Care workers for severely disabled - US$ 300 ($100 each)
2 Junior Care worker for severely disabled - US$ 174 ($87 each)
Total Cost US$ 1,013

*These staff are paid in partnership between the charity and the orphanage.

Each month we also pay for:

Tuition support for 3 former Orphanage students to study - US$ 106
Birthday parties and social activities for the children - US$ 60
Weekend educational play sessions for the disabled children - US$ 55
Personal effects (e.g. shoes, clothes, toiletries) - US$ 50

Sponsor a Staff Member

Vietnamese Care worker, Thao, employed by UK charity the Kianh Foundation. Seen here feeding disabled boy Tuan, who has cerebral palsy, at Hoi An Orphanage, Vietnam

Why not consider making a regular donation to support one of our hard-working Vietnamese staff? Sponsoring a staff member is a key area in which your hard-earned funds can have the most positive, and long-lasting impact on the lives of the children in our care.

The Orphanage staff are making a real difference to children's lives. In addition to health and education, our staff provide love, care and a safe living environment; things that many of the Orphanage children wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

Sara, and her husband Magnus, from Sweden sponsor Thao, one of our staff caring for the children with disability. The following is an extract from Thao's heart-felt letter of thanks to them:

'Dear Sara, maybe for the rest of my life, I will never forget Jackie and Nick. Both of them accepted me to work at Hoi An Orphanage and thus, allowed me to support my child. I do not have a husband anymore. He was a vet. Three years ago, he died suddenly and now, my daughter and I are alone. Sometimes I feel that I cannot go on but when I feel like this, I think of my daughter. She is just growing up and she is like an orphan now, a fatherless child. So I try to live, and to replace my husband in looking after her. She is 10 years old now, and in Year 3 at Primary School.

I work at Hoi An Orphanage and take care of the children there in many ways. I love all of the children there, and think of them as my own children, and because of this, I don't think of my job as hard work. I would like to bring my own love to all of these children who do not have enough love. I thank you so much for helping me to work here and I hope you will help me for a long time.'

Our Wish List

Disabled orphan child, with hydrocephalus, being fed by care worker employed by UK charity the Kianh Foundation at Hoi An Orphanage, Vietnam

In addition to support for the above costs, we also regularly require:

Child Car-Seats - Our care staff often have difficulty feeding the badly-disabled children. Child car-seats are perfect for holding the disabled children in an upright position, making the feeding process more efficient. They are also ideal for seating severely disabled children who may otherwise be left lying on their beds for a long period of time.

Arts and Crafts Material - We are in need of coloured card, large pieces of paper for painting (bigger than A4), tissue paper, pipe cleaners, glitter, stencils, dot-to-dot books, LARGE pens/pencils/crayons that are easy to hold, and children's painting overalls. Such simple items are difficult to get in Vietnam and are much needed for our special education classrooms.

Orthopaedic Bowls, Cups and Spoons

Wrist/Sweat Bands - great for kids who dribble a lot and less obtrusive than a towel/cloth around the neck.

Tea Tree Oil - Our children get a variety of strange skin complaints and Tea Tree helps a lot.

Fabric Sticking Plasters - Only the vinyl ones are available in Vietnam and will not stick for long because of the humidity.

Food Thickener - such as the product "Karicare Food Thickener", produced by Australian company Nutrica. Our children with cerebral palsy have extreme difficulty in swallowing liquids; thickeners will greatly improve their health.
